Spectra 3 Breast Pump Review (After 1 Year of Use)

This is a review on Spectra 3 Breast Pump.

I’ve been using Spectra 3 Breast Pump for quite some time now, and I’m very HAPPY with it!

On my first baby:
1 1/2 years, thrice a day, for 15 minutes

On my second baby (current):
2 months, once a day, for 15 minutes

Annnddddd it is still working properly! Whew! I plan to still use this when I go back to work!

I bought it from Babymama for 4,900 pesos only!

Below are my Pros and Cons.

– Easy to setup
– Easy to clean
– The machine is heavy so it will not trip easily
– it does its job, compared to my avent single electric pump, I can get more milk with Spectra 3 in much lesser time
– affordable! At 4,900 pesos, you can have double electric breast pump!
– adjustable suction

– heavy (you cannot bring it with you when your on the go, unless you want to tone your arms LOL)
– at some point, some milk are stuck in the short tubing (the tube near the breastkit), I’m not sure why 😦
– dirt  accumulates in the surface of the tubes, maybe because of it’s velvety texture?

This is good for moms who will soon be “pumping moms” (hahahaahha!) and want to save since it affordable, and it does its job!

My Coldy Cold Ice Pack from Saizen

It’s been 5 months since I started pumping at work. At the end of the day, I have to transport my breastmilk from our office back to our home. One thing you need to remember is to keep your breastmilk cool/cold to avoid spoilage. So you need a good quality insulated/thermal bag aaaaaaaannnnnndddddd GOOD ICE PACK.

Before I went back to work, I’d researched what ice packs are available here in Manila. There is “Nano Ice” by Babymama. Techni Ice that you can purchase from Sulit vendors. At SM department stores, they have Coleman and Rubber Maid ice packs.

I tried the Coleman ice pack “bag” (“bag because they have the ice pack in a plastic container) but I think it is not good for long term use. The ice pack plastic warps 😦 Thus, I switch to this (refer to the image below)

I bought this from Saizen at Robinson’s Magnolia for only 88 pesos per ice pack. What I like about this ice pack is, the gel substance is sealed in a plastic container, not plastic bag, thus prevents the risk of “matapon ang laman pag natusok” 🙂

Below is a picture of my Motherly Bag with my ice packs 🙂 Douzo!

Farlin 2oz Bottles – Alternative for Breast Milk Storage

Breastfeeding mom? Will go back to work anytime soon? Looking for breast milk storage? Low budget? I think I have a suggestion.

When I was looking for breast milk storage, 3 months ago, my options were Avent bottles or Medela storage freezing pack. But I think they are too pricey, and the volume of those bottles are quite big given that I cannot express so much milk. Thus I looked for small storage (at least 2oz.)

I found the “2oz Farlin bottles” in SM Baby Company. One bottle costs 69.75php (I think! Hahaha Nakalimutan ko na!) . So I bought 8! Hahaahaha

For me, the only disadvantage is it cannot be frozen (I assume because the box did not say so). But all in all, it was a good buy 🙂

What to do when you Forgot your Nursing Cover

Q: What to do when you Forgot your Nursing Cover?

A: Screammmm waaaaaaa

Nursing cover is very essential for me because this keeps me private when I am pumping.

By the way I pump at work, and my “pumping station” is our meeting room with translucent glass wall (stripe frosting).

Anyway… This day is the most stressful day of my pumping career (started last March 2013).

Why? I forgot my NURSING COVER! There is a glass wall in my “pumping station” you know!

“You can pump facing the opposite side of the glass wall” said PersonX.

“Uhmm I cannot do that because there is a possibility that people that happen to pass our meeting room will see my “you-know-what”!”, I said.

Well, I discovered a remedy for my problem.

I used the following to improvise a nursing cover.

  • Scarf -> for the actual cover
  • A pair of sipit (I found these in our admin section!) -> for the “neck” support
  • Brown paper bag -> for the bone

It is not as convenient as the real nursing cover, but it helped me.

But I experienced stress because of worrying that I might have a “wardrobe malfunction!” haha.

Anyway I survived, stressful though.
